The American Automobile Association expects more than 122 million Americans – roughly 35% of the population – will travel 50 miles or more from home for the Christmas and New Year holidays this year, including 700,000 Idahoans.
89 percent or 110 million travelers will do so by motor vehicle. That’s 2.1 million more than a year ago. More than 8 million Americans will fly – a 2.3% jump from last year. And about 4.9 million passengers will travel by cruise ship, bus or train – a 9% increase from a year ago.
AAA says for those planning to drive, be sure to bring along an emergency kit, warm coats, blankets, and some snacks and water. Additionally, the organization urges people to share travel plans with friends and family in case you fail to arrive on time.
