The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Burrell Avenue at about 6:10 p.m. last (Tue) night.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and active flames coming from a small shed located behind the main residence on the property. Firefighters quickly initiated suppression efforts, bringing the fire under control and preventing it from spreading beyond the shed.

According to a news release, the property owner reported that a heat lamp had recently been placed inside the shed to provide warmth for their chickens. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The Lewiston Fire Department responded with three engines, three ambulances, and one chief officer.

As colder weather approaches, the Lewiston Fire Department reminds residents to use caution when utilizing heat lamps around animals or in outbuildings. Heat lamps can easily ignite nearby combustible materials if they are not properly secured, maintained, or positioned at a safe distance. Residents are encouraged to follow manufacturer guidelines, inspect equipment regularly, and consider safer alternative heating options when possible.
