Deputies in Idaho County were able to get out of a side-by-side before a wanted person allegedly rammed it repeatedly.
On Thursday (Dec 4), deputies got information that a wanted person was in the Elk City area. A release from the Sheriff’s Office says just after 1pm a deputy located Daniel Key of Harpster in a Ford pickup and tried to make a traffic stop. The release goes on to say the deputy was following with lights and siren on for about 3 miles before stopping the pursuit because of weather and road conditions.
About 2 hours later deputies on a side-by-side found the suspect up Table Meadows Road. The pickup was headed down and allegedly rammed the side-by-side. Deputies were able to get out before it happened. The release continues, saying the suspect backed up and rammed it again numerous times, trying to get past it. The suspect then fled on foot.
Friday morning at about 7am they found the suspect in a small pickup. After a brief foot pursuit, they took Key into custody. He was checked by medics for hypothermia because he was outside all night, then transported to jail.
33-year-old Daniel Key was arrested for 5 Idaho County warrants: 2 for felony eluding, one for misdemeanor disturbing the peace, one for misdemeanor eluding and resisting/obstructing, and one for misdemeanor probation violation. He was also arrested for felony malicious injury to property, felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, two counts of misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia, and two counts of misdemeanor resisting and obstructing. He was also charged with misdemeanor eluding.
In the release, the Sheriff’s Office thanks the Elk City residents who offered the use of their personal off-road vehicles to help deputies search and also retrieve the damaged side-by-side.
