You may see some unusual activity on the Levee soon. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is doing their normal wildlife control. They’re starting “control measures” for burrowing rodents on the Lewiston Levee. In a release from the Corps, they say it’s a “standard part of levee maintenance.” They say the main goal is to ensure the ongoing safety and integrity of the hillside. “The burrowing activities of animals such as rock chucks can create tunnels that compromise the structural integrity of the levee.”
The release says they’ll be doing the work during periods of low public visitation, and will be supervised by trained wildlife specialists. It starts immediately.
