Lewiston Man Convicted of Felony Attempted Strangulation

A Lewiston man has been convicted of felony attempted strangulation.

According to a news release from the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office, on September 20th last year, the Lewiston Police Department responded to a 911 call after 46-year-old Joseph Witherup violently attacked his ex-girlfriend in her apartment by punching and strangling her multiple times. Witherup fled the scene and ultimately was arrested a few blocks away.   He was found guilty by a jury earlier this month.

Witherup is facing up to 15 years in prison and/or a $50,000.00 fine and is scheduled for sentencing April 29th.
