The City of Pullman is planning to cut back hours of some of its employees to balance the budget. A press release from the city says after 18 months of cost-cutting measures across all city departments, more has to be done.
The release says they will reduce hours for some “casual, seasonal, and part-time staff” as well as reducing the number of those summer positions. It also says they will be making changes to services, programming, and purchasing. Some of the services include parks, recreation, and at Neill Public Library. Specific details on which positions will be decreased or cut have yet to be finalized.
The release goes on to say vacant and vacated staff positions will only be filled on a case-by-case basis after evaluation for organizational and operational need.
City Administrator Sean Wells released a statement saying “Mayor Benjamin and I are committed to reducing costs and balancing the city’s budget while doing everything we can to minimize long-term impacts and preserve both our staff and the core services we provide to the residents of Pullman”.
