An Idaho legislator is trying to increase the penalty for soliciting a prostitute. House Bill 493 was submitted yesterday (Mon) to the Judiciary, Rules, and Administration Committee. Right now solicitation is a misdemeanor, but if the bill is approved and signed, it will become a felony for anyone over 21 years old. The sentence, on the first offense, will be no less than 6 months in jail with a maximum sentence of 3 years or a fine of up to $10,000 or both. Anyone caught between 18 and 21 years old will continue to be guilty of a misdemeanor with 5 days to 1 year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine.

If the Governor signs it, it will become law on July 1st.
