WA Bill Allows Camera Use For Parking Tickets, Not For Customs Enforcement

wa-legislature-sb6002

Senate Bill 6002 is making its way through the Washington legislature. It claims to balance “the need to ensure public safety and an individual’s right to privacy” in the use of traffic cameras and license plate readers.

It allows the use for things like tracking people on watch lists as well as saying “Any parking enforcement agency may use an automated license plate reader system for the following purposes… Enforcing time restrictions on the use of parking spaces.”

It does not allow the use for “…immigration investigation or enforcement, or both.”

The law and justice committee will discuss the bill in the executive session tomorrow (Tues) starting at 10:30am.
