Idaho State Treasurer Julie A. Ellsworth is encouraging residents to take a moment this December to check whether the state is holding any of their lost or forgotten dollars, especially after the record-breaking returns of last month.
In November alone, the State Treasurer’s Office returned $2.25 million dollars to Idahoans, the highest monthly amount ever sent back to residents in a one-month period.
Idaho currently safeguards more than $291 million dollars of unclaimed dollars/property. These funds include forgotten bank accounts, refunds, insurance payouts, rebate checks, and other dollars that were separated from their owners and turned over to the state. These dollars remain available in perpetuity until claimed by their rightful owners.
You can search the Idaho State Treasurer’s unclaimed property database at YourMoney.Idaho.Gov. If your name is on the list, the claim is free.
Staff in the Unclaimed Property Division are available to assist with questions at 208-332-2942.
