A 55-year-old Lewiston man was sentenced today (Weds) to at least 25 years in prison for Rape. Karl Lutonsky was found guilty in September of raping a 17-year-old girl in 2022. The Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office says the State argued for life without parole because he “could never be safe in the community” because it’s his 9th felony conviction and he was on parole at the time of the rape. The victim provided an impact statement to the Court saying the rape “fundamentally broke my sense of safety and self.”
The Prosecutor’s Office released a statement about the sentence saying “rape is one of the most serious crimes in our community. As the victim in this case courageously described, it has and will continue to impact every facet of her life.”
In the release, Prosecutor Justin Coleman thanked the Chief Deputy Prosecutor, April Smith, the Lewiston Police Department, and specifically Detective Brian Erickson. He also said “I especially want to commend the victim for her bravery throughout the case.”
Lutonsky’s sentence will have him released at the soonest when he’s 80 years old.
