| LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 21 Northwest (Wash.), seeded eighth in the Cascade Conference Championship tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, defeated No. 12 LC State, the fifth seed, in the play-in portion of the tournament on Tuesday. The Eagles took the match in the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-14.
The Warriors await the announcement of the NAIA Opening Round qualifiers to see if their season will continue.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Two kills each by Karissa Lindner and Mikale Roy had LC State within two, 8-6 early in the first set, but a long run by Northwest had the Eagles in front 14-6. Swings by Roy, Juliauna Forgach Aguilar and Lindner helped the Warriors keep pace and a block by Lindner made it 17-12. Another kill by Roy forced a Northwest timeout at 18-15, but the Eagles came out of the pause with a 7-2 scoring run to take the set 25-17.
NU opened the second frame on a 3-0 run before a kill by Teagan Scott and a kill and block each from Lindner and Forgach Aguilar tied the set 4-4. Service aces by Ashlyn Watt and Kadence Moore kept the difference within one, 10-9, but another long rally by the Eagles ahead 15-9.
Roy, Scott, Forgach Aguilar, Lindner and Alba Carpena added kills and a block by Jordynn Albright and Lindner cut the difference to 20-15, and a 7-1 run by LC State had the score at 24-22. Lindner had two kills in the run, she teamed up with Albright on two blocks, Albright added a kill and Roy and Abby Beaton teamed up at the net to cap it. NU answered with a point to win the frame 25-22.
The Eagles maintained control in the final set and jumped out to a 9-2 advantage. LC State struck for three straight points with kills by Forgach Aguilar and Albright and an ace by Moore, but NU surged ahead 18-8. Forgach Aguilar added three more kills, Helena Stewart tallied one and Esther Kailiponi dealt an ace before Northwest closed the set 25-14.
STAT RECAP
Forgach Aguilar led the Warriors with nine kills while Lindner and Roy each had eight. Roy’s was a career high and Lindner did her damage with a .438 attack percentage. Scott dished out 15 assists and Kendall Focht added eight.
Ella Stosich led the back row with 18 digs and Makenzie Stout collected 11. Lindner put up five blocks and Albright assisted on three.
