Idaho drivers saw a slight decrease in the state’s average gas price this week.

According to the American Automobile Association, today’s average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Gem State is $3.46, about a penny less than a week ago, six cents cheaper than a month ago, but two cents more than a year ago. The national average currently sits at $3.08 per gallon, which is five cents less than a week ago, ten cents less than a month ago, and 12 cents cheaper than a year ago. Idaho again ranks 8th in the U.S. for the most expensive fuel behind California, Washington, Hawaii, Oregon, Nevada, Alaska, and Arizona.

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading just under $60 per barrel, falling below that mark on Friday for the first time since April 2021. Increased crude production by OPEC and reduced tensions in the Middle East may be helping drive down market prices.

AAA urges drivers to keep up routine maintenance, including regularly checking tire pressure and using fuel injector cleaner to improve fuel economy.

Of Idaho’s largest cities, Coeur d’Alene has the state’s highest average price for a gallon of regular at $3.52, while Idaho Falls has the state’s lowest average price at $3.32. Lewiston’s average price for a gallon of regular is currently $3.37.
