Local Fire Depts Warn Of Battery Fires

fire-safety

We’re in Fire Safety Week and local fire departments encourage you to think about what can cause a fire in your home. This year the National Fire Protection Agency is spreading the word about lithium-ion batteries. Things like using the wrong charger, over-charging, or throwing away a lithium-ion battery can lead to a fire.

They recommend you only use the charger that came with your device. If it breaks, you should get a new one from the manufacturer. You should also remove the device from the charger or cord when it’s fully charged. Once the battery is no good, it should be recycled correctly and not thrown away. Tossing it in the trash could lead to a fire. Recycling locations in the LC Valley include Home Depot and the Asotin County Landfill. If those don’t work for you, you can find recycling locations at call2recycle.org.
