Weather Service Recommends Snow Preparation Now

With the chance of snow in the higher elevations this weekend, the National Weather Service is reminding residents to be ready. The weather office out of Missoula oversees much of central and north-central Idaho. They say recent forecasts have lowered the snow levels to 3,500 feet in some areas of Montana. Most areas in Idaho have risen though. The snow level around Winchester is lowest on Monday morning at 4,600 feet. That’s still about 600 feet higher than town.

The warning they’re sending to drivers is to prepare now, so you’re not surprised or stuck. Studded snow tires are legal as of October 1st in Idaho and Montana. They are not legal in Washington until November 1st. They also recommend putting your chains in the car and carrying an emergency kit. They say it’s also time to start giving the driver in front of you more distance so you can slide to a stop if necessary without hitting anyone else.
