The Latah County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 2 evacuation order for some residents and campgrounds near the Whitepine Fire.
According to a social media post from the sheriff’s office last (Mon) night, Palouse River Road and all county and forest roads within the set zone are restricted to fire traffic and local residents.
Large air tankers have been used to drop retardant onto the fire. Officials warn that it’s dangerous to be within the zone where fire retardant is being dropped. The public is advised to avoid the area and allow firefighters and emergency personnel to access the fire area.
