Craig Mountain Firewood Sale Begins

idfglogo021323

Idaho Fish and Game is selling firewood permits for the harvest of dead and dying timber on the Craig Mountain WMA. The sale will begin August 29 and will end October 31. Areas open to harvest are Idaho Fish and Game owned land within 100ft of open roads. One gate will be opened to allow better access (see attached map below).

Firewood permits must be on your person during harvest and can be obtained M-F, 8-5 at the Idaho Fish and Game office in Lewiston. Please note: Firewood permits will NOT be available on Monday, September 1 due to the office being closed for the Labor Day holiday.

Permits cost $10/chord and are limited to 5 chords per household. Just a reminder, since Craig Mountain WMA has several different agencies and private individuals who manage and own property up there, firewood cutters must know who’s land they are on and must have the correct permit to harvest wood. Each agency has their own permit. Firewood cutters are not allowed to drive vehicles off the main roads to access wood. Violations will be strictly enforced.

Please be mindful of other wood cutters and recreationists by being cautious of felling trees near roadways/trails. Do not block roads/trails, allow space for passing traffic and clean up your area before you leave. Be safe out there!
