Clearwater, Idaho, and Lemhi Counties in Idaho and seven Montana counties are under a weather alert for heavy rain and the damage that can come with it.
The National Weather Service has issued a Hydrologic Outlook for the areas. They have growing confidence that monsoon moisture is headed into the northern Rockies by Wednesday. With it comes a chance for scattered thunderstorms capable of producing rain in excess of half-an-inch per hour.
The concern is that it increases the potential for rock and debris slides in steep terrain. They specify Highway 95 from Whitebird to Riggins, forest service roads, and recent burn scar areas.
They recommend you delay any backcountry travel for Wednesday and Thursday.
