Central Ferry Fire Grows to More than 5,500 Acres

A wildfire in Whitman County prompted evacuations yesterday (Wed) afternoon and closed a portion of State Route 127.

The Central Ferry Fire is burning near Central Ferry between the Snake River and State Highway 26. The blaze has grown to an estimated 5,500 acres and Level 2 evacuations remain in place as several structures are threatened.

State Route 127 has been reopened after the fire forced its closure Wednesday afternoon.

State Fire Assistance has been approved and help has been ordered.

The fire is burning in grass, wheat and brush and is listed at zero percent contained.
