A fire broke out in Garfield County this morning just before the Red Flag Warning kicked in at noon. Winds pushed the blaze across stubble in a field off Knotgrass Road near the Asotin County line. It also burned a shed housing ag equipment.
Garfield County Fire District #1 immediately responded and requested mutual aid assistance from the Asotin County Fire District. Asotin County sent brush trucks as well as a tanker full of water to douse the flames.
The estimate in size is 30 acres. There was no report of injuries. Crews remained at the fire until after dark when the wind died down to make sure it didn’t flare up again.
While firefighters were working on that blaze, another broke out in Garfield County on Valentine Ridge. GCFD Chief James Cleveland says the wind was pushing it across stubble where harvesting was going on. It burned about 80-100 acres.
