The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport has been applying a seal coat to its runways, which has produced an odor some residents have described as similar to petroleum products. While the smell may be noticeable in surrounding areas, it’s not cause for concern.

According to the City of Lewiston, the 911 dispatch center has received a high volume of calls about the odor. Police and fire units have thoroughly investigated and confirmed the source is the runway coating at the airport and there is no cause for alarm.
