Crews Gain Ground on Two Latah County Wildfires

Firefighters have gained ground on a pair of Latah County wildfires.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands, the lightning-caused Lamb Fire was reported at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday (Mon)

Crews were able to stop the fire’s progress at 80 acres and now have 50 percent containment. An evacuation order from the Latah County Sheriff’s Office was also lifted on the Lamb Fire. Firefighters remain on scene to address hot spots and mop up operations.

Meanwhile, the Cuatro Fire was reported around 5:40 p.m. (Mon) near the 1300 Block of Four Mile Road in Viola.

Resources were able to be diverted from the Lamb Fire to quickly contain the fire. Four engines were on scene along with the Moscow Rural Fire Department, the Potlatch Rural Fire Department, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association.

A Type 1 and a Type 3 helicopter were utilized but have since been released from the incident. A bulldozer has established a line around three-quarters of the perimeter and will continue to work on establishing line.

Idaho Department of Lands Crews remained on scene overnight to strengthen hand and control lines and monitor the fire for flare ups and hotspots. The Palouse Type 2 Initial Attack Hand Crew was ordered and will be assisting with mop up today (Tue).

There were evacuations ordered by the Latah County Sheriff’s Office, however they have since been lifted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
