12th Street between Warner and Thain will soon be safer for pedestrians. The City of Lewiston is working on the sidewalks and curbs next week. The project is to take care of a safety hazard for kids walking or biking to nearby schools, the Boys & Girls Club, Community Park, the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds, Orchards Pool, and more. Not only does it include 12th Street, but also about half of a block of Bryden, east of Thain, connecting to 12th.

The work includes new 5-foot-wide sidewalks, ramps, driveway access, and utility adjustments.

It starts Monday and work will be done between 6am and 7pm.

It will cost $629, 359.50. $250,000 comes from a Child Pedestrian Safety Grant. The rest comes from Traffic Impact Analysis Fees.

There’s no word yet on how long it will take to finish the project.
