A farmer got around a fire in the wheat fields off Highway 95 between the top of the Lewiston Hill and Genesee. It started around 2:20on the west side of the highway.
Before firefighters could arrive, the farmer used his disc to surround the fire and keep it from spreading. Winds were blowing west to east at about 15 miles per hour, gusting much higher, so if he hadn’t gotten around it, it would likely have spread east into more wheat fields.
There’s no word on what started the fire, but it’s likely an accidental start as there were several harvest trucks and tractors in the area.
