
The latest crime numbers are out for 2024 in Washington. The state itself saw 451,665 “Group A” offenses, or more serious crimes, down from 495,283 in 2023.
Locally, the City of Clarkston saw 901 reports of Group A offenses, ranging from a single murder to a single report of bribery. That’s up from 837 in 2023. Between those offenses, there was a 22% increase in aggravated assault reports, a 16% drop in destruction of property, and a 58% drop in counterfeiting/forgery reports. Drug Violations more than doubled from 25 to 81 reports, and drug equipment violations more than quadrupled from 11 to 59 reports. Overall, Clarkston saw 124.4 serious crimes per 1,000 people.
The City of Asotin was a pretty safe place to be. They had 9.8 Group A crimes per 1,000 people. They reported 1 drug/narcotic violation, 1 destruction of property, 2 violations of no contact order, 3 larceny-theft offenses, and 5 simple assaults, for a total of 12 crimes, a drop from 38 in 2023.
In Asotin County, outside of city limits, there were 301 last year, down from 343 crimes in 2023. The most crimes were in the simple assault category. 94 were reported. Then larceny comes in with 54, a 25% drop from the year before. The sharpest rise was in drug equipment violations. It rose from 3 in 2023 to 11 reports last year.
