Two Fires Continue To Burn In The Payette National Forest

The two fires east of McCall have grown by several thousand acres.

Lightning started the Big Bear Fire July 9th in Idaho County. It’s now about 9,520 acres. Fire crews have protected Arctic Creek Lodge and River of No Return Lodge and the fire has reportedly moved past. It’s currently listed at 75% contained.

The Rush Fire was also started by lightning, this one back on July 10th. It’s just south of the county line in Valley County. Rush Creek Trail is still closed. The Soldier Bar airstrip burned over and is now closed. The fire is moving west along the western face of the Rush Creek drainage. At last check it was 7,002 acres in size. It’s still listed at 0% contained.
