The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a residence located at 606 Lapwai Road just before 2 a.m. yesterday (Sun).
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire showing from the north side of the home. Law enforcement officers on scene were able to confirm with a renter on the property that no occupants were inside the residence at the time of the fire. Fire crews initiated an aggressive exterior attack, quickly knocking down a significant portion of the flames before transitioning to interior operations to fully extinguish the fire.
Due to structural concerns, including a large tin roof covering the fire area, a backhoe from the City of Lewiston Public Works Department was requested and utilized to assist with the safe removal of roofing material, allowing firefighters to access and extinguish remaining hot spots.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. However, it’s believed that one or more dogs may not have made it out of the residence.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
