The Old Greer Fire burning in Lewis County is two separate fires that are close in proximity.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands the fires have not physically merge; however, the fires are being managed as one incident. The total acreage for both fires combined is about 78 acres. The Old Greer Grade remains closed due to the ongoing firefighting efforts. There are no evacuations in place, and 5 structures remain threatened.

Containment is a priority for the crews working the fire. Currently, it’s listed as 0% contained, though the fire has remained within its footprint. Bulldozer lines, hand dug lines, and the placement of hose around the fire are being utilized, however the steep slopes and rugged terrain have made it a slow process.

There are 160 fire personnel engaged in the fire operations from the Idaho Department of Lands, the U.S. Forest Service, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association.  There are still 6 engines, 3 dozers, and 3 water tenders working the fire.

A Type-2 hand crew has been ordered, which will add another 20 personnel to continue making progress on the fire prior to the anticipated heat and possibility of further lightening in the area this week.
