Lewiston Zero-Tolerance Illegal Fireworks Policy

Lewiston Police leaders are sending out a warning about fireworks use.  They say because it’s so dry this season, the City of Lewiston has a zero-tolerance policy.  That goes for the use of illegal fireworks and the use of legal fireworks in an unsafe manner.

The easiest way to remember is that if it goes up or blows up, it’s illegal.  If you buy it at a stand in the city, it’s legal.  Some of the fireworks at stands on the Nez Perce Reservation are legal and some aren’t within city limits.

If you’re found in possession of illegal fireworks, law enforcement may confiscate them.  Discharging illegal fireworks can result in a $1,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail.

If you’re celebrating this year with fireworks, be sure to keep a fire extinguisher or bucket of water handy.

If you would like to report illegal fireworks, the LPD would you to call their non-emergency number at 746-0171.
