Idaho gas prices dipped slightly this week, but with Memorial Day just around the corner, pump prices could start climbing soon.

According to the American Automobile Association, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.28, about half a penny less than a week ago, a nickel less than a month ago, and 57 cents cheaper than a year ago.

The national average currently sits at $3.18 per gallon. That’s an increase of four cents from a week ago and three cents from a month ago, but today’s price is still 41 cents cheaper than a year ago. Idaho remains in 10th place for the most expensive fuel.

However with a projected record 45.1 million Americans traveling for Memorial Day, including a record 39.4 million by car, AAA says drivers should expect a surge in gasoline demand that could move prices higher.

Of Idaho’s largest cities, Boise has the state’s lowest average price per gallon at $3.19 while Lewiston continues to have the highest average price at $3.36.
