The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement agencies across Idaho, urging drivers to buckle up.

Beginning Sunday and running through June 1st, deputies will join a statewide enforcement effort, issuing citations to those not wearing their seat belt and educating Idahoans on the importance of all drivers and passengers buckling up.

The seat belt safety effort coincides with Memorial Day weekend and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Click It or Ticket campaign with law enforcement officers nationwide.

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is an especially dangerous time on America’s roads, as it is the first long weekend of the summer travel period and start of the ‘100 deadliest days,’ and law enforcement agencies want to get the message out that wearing seat belts saves lives.
