The Garfield County Sheriff is warning of a scam making its way through the Pomeroy area. Scammers are calling residents about missing jury duty. The caller ID actually shows the Sheriff’s Office, so it may seem legitimate, but it’s not. The caller identifies himself as “Deputy Davis” or “Judge Cox.” The Sheriff says there’s no Deputy Davis in their office.
He says “it’s a fairly common scam and now it’s our turn.” He assures the public there are no warrants to arrest anyone for skipping out on jury duty, and there’s no reason to give out personal information to unverified callers.
