UPDATE: The Bitterroot National Forest reports there are now three helicopters dropping water on the fire and a Hotshot crew is on the ground.
Wednesday evening someone spotted smoke in the Big Creek drainage area. It’s just over the Montana line, about 9.5 miles west of Stevensville, MT. Fire managers in a helicopter found the fire burning in steep, rocky terrain. It’s described as “smoldering and creeping”. Ground crews are working to gain access to the area. Mangers were working to get a helicopter in for water drops. At last report, the fire was estimated at 75 acres.
