Idaho courts across the state will celebrate Law Day this week by offering opportunities for students to learn about the work of the Judicial Branch.

According to a news release from the Idaho Judicial Branch, Law Day, this Thursday, May 1st, is an annual celebration of the rule of law that underpins American society. Courts and legal organizations across the country use the day to hold educational events about our judicial system. The constitutional principles highlighted through these events make Idaho and our country what they are today.

Locally, events are planned in Clearwater and Idaho counties, that will bring students of various ages to watch court proceedings or participate in other presentations meant to illustrate the responsibilities of the court system. At least one tribal court hopes to do the same in early May. In eastern Idaho, judges plan to visit college classes to talk about the courts.

Other events will focus on legal services. Kootenai County will hold a free Law Day legal clinic at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library focused on wills and on family law issues, and the Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program will hold an Ask A Lawyer event offering a chance for limited legal advice.

The Seventh District Bar in eastern Idaho will present its annual Liberty Bell Award — given by lawyers to a non-lawyer who has strengthened the American system of freedom and justice under the law through contributions to the community.
