Idaho U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson has cosponsored the Public Lands in Public Hands Act.
The bill would maintain public access to public land by banning the sale or transfer of most public lands managed by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service except under specific conditions and where required under previous laws. The legislation is sponsored by Montana Republican Representative Ryan Zinke.
In a press release, Simpsons said “Idaho’s abundance of parks, forests, and public lands makes the state a wonderful place to live, work, and play.” He added that “Public lands were set aside for public use, and we have a responsibility to ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the same benefits we sometimes take for granted today.”
