Washington Governor Bob Ferguson says the state will appeal a recent FEMA decision.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied the state’s application for disaster relief after the November storm that blew down trees, destroyed homes, and caused major damage.
In a press release, Ferguson says the request met all of the necessary criteria for emergency relief and this denial will just cause further delay to the affected communities.
The storm mostly affected western Washington, but also included Walla Walla County.
The denied request was for $34 million in federal aid. The release says it would help pay for fixes to public highways, utilities, and electrical power systems.
Governor Ferguson released the denial letter. There is no explanation as to why it was denied. It simply said “…supplemental federal assistance under the Stafford Act is not warranted.
The state has 30 days to appeal.
