LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Police Department is investigating two incidents early this morning in the Orchards that resulted in a fatality. According to a press release, at around 4:27 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Preston Avenue for a report of a possible fight and shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene, they did not find any victims, did not hear any gunfire, or found anyone fighting.

Thirteen minutes after that call, the department’s Major Collision Investigation Team was dispatched to the area of 10th and Warner Avenue for a serious crash involving multiple occupants.

“Officers at the scene found a 2014 Chevy Malibu had struck a tree on the Southside of Warner Avenue near the intersection with 10th Street. The Malibu had significant front-end damage. The initial investigation appears to show the Malibu was [traveling] Westbound on Warner Ave and left the roadway, going over the sidewalk and striking the tree,” LPD says.

Three people were found inside the car with serious injuries and were transported to the hospital by medics. One of the occupants was later declared deceased.

PD is investigating if the vehicle in this crash was related to the shots fired call a few minutes earlier on Preston Avenue.

“The investigation is continuing and names and conditions of those involved in the crash are not being released at this time until family can be notified. The area around 10th and Warner to 12th and Warner was closed for several hours and was reopened at approximately 11:00am,” the press release says.

The Lewiston Police Department is asking for the public’s help in this investigation.

“We are asking anyone with camera systems on their homes or businesses, that would receive video or pictures from the roadway, during this time period, in the area of 10th and Preston, 10th Street from Preston to where it curves and becomes Warner Avenue to the roundabout at 12th and Warner, to contact LPD Detective Brian Erickson at 208-746-0171,” LPD says.
