
A hiker died while moving through a railroad tunnel near Reubens Saturday morning.
According to a news release from the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at around 10:40 Saturday morning to a report of an injured hiker on the railroad trail between U.S. Highway 95 and Reubens. Nez Perce and Lewis County Deputies, Lewiston medics, and LifeFlight responded to the area.
It was reported the hiker had been struck in the head by a falling rock about 4 miles east of Highway 95 in one of the railroad tunnels. The other hikers in the group provided aid until deputies and LifeFlight arrived.
Unfortunately, the 40 year old unidentified woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
