PULLMAN, WA – The Whitman County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a 60-year-old man found inside a shed fire at around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Steven Paul Sargent was discovered after Pullman Fire Department personnel made entry to the small structure in the 400 block of NE Maple Street in Pullman. The cause and manner of death remains under investigation, according to Whitman County Coroner Annie Pillers.

Fire crews reportedly faced significant debris inside, making entry difficult, and found discarded cigarettes and electrical cords. Firefighters contained the fire before it spread to nearby apartment buildings.

The investigation was turned over to Pullman Police detectives and the Whitman County Coroner’s Office. According to officials, their initial investigation indicated the victim was not of college age or connected to the university.
