
Cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels have helped crews working to suppress regional wildfires.
The Gwen Fire burning east of Lewiston is listed at 28,805 acres and is now 65 percent contained. U.S. Highwayy 12 remains open and travelers are advised to slow down when driving through the fire zone between Arrow Bridge and Cherrylane as there could be rocks and other debris in the roadway.
The Lower Granite Fire also known as the Dan Fire burning near Pomeroy is now 14,482 acres and is listed at 50 percent contained.
The Cougar Creek Fire burning southwest of Clarkston is now 17,602 acres and is 29 percent contained.
Crews on all three fires continue to work on containment lines and are actively addressing hot spots and mopping up in areas safe to engage.
Temperatures in the region are expected to increase over the next few days and the public may notice an increase in fire activity and smoke.
