Crews continue to gain the upper hand on the Billy Creek Fire burning along the Snake River canyon south of Lewiston.

The fire is still listed at 3,185 acres and is now 74 percent contained.

The Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team is transfering command back to the Idaho Department of Lands.

Resources have executed targeted fire line tactics on the few remaining hot spots, and despite the challenging hot, dry and windy weather, firefighters have not observe any heat or smoke in the areas of concern. All known hotspots along the fire’s edge have been thoroughly checked and addressed. With minimal heat remaining, there is little concern for any additional fire growth.

State crews will continue to patrol and monitor the area for any undetected heat, and structure protection personnel are completing assessments of structures along the Snake River corridor and have instructed crews on a plan for use on future fires.
