The Washington state Department of Natural Resources has issued a statewide ban on outdoor burning, campfires, the use of charcoal briquettes and prescribed burns on its lands. The ban started at 1 p.m. yesterday (Wed) and will go until at least Sept. 30, 2024. The burn ban could be extended if conditions warrant.
The restrictions follow several days of hot, dry weather statewide, including record-breaking temperatures in several areas.
Nearly all of Washington is still in a drought emergency, following a drought declaration in April.
State officials urge people spending time outside to stay prepared during fire season by being aware of rapid environmental changes, checking restrictions and conditions before heading out, properly securing tow chains to prevent sparks and staying on marked trails.
Anyone that sees smoke is urged to call 9 1 1 to report the fire.
