MOSCOW, ID—The University of Idaho’s head volleyball coach has resigned before the conclusion of an investigation into his troubled history. Chris Gonzalez was suspended on March 27th after complaints brought by former and current players that he emotionally and verbally abused them over the years.
The separation is official as of today.
“With his resignation, the investigation stops, and no further action will be taken,: Assistant Athletic Director Jerek Wolcott says in a press release.
Earlier this year, a case manager was provided for the student-athletes.
“This case manager attended all team activities where Gonzalez was present, and many others where he was not. The students were connected with mental health and support resources. The university worked to uphold our values and the principles of an inclusive, supportive and nurturing learning environment while maintaining due process under the law and our policies,” Wolcott added.
With this resolution, he says they look forward to the volleyball program rebuilding an environment where its student-athletes can be comfortable and succeed both on and off the court.
