MOSCOW, ID—The Latah County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents about a fundraising form asking for financial support to provide bulletproof vests to regional law enforcement officers. The agency says the sheriff’s office does not send this type of request, and the funds do not go to the local office. The form is being sent by the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association, which is listed as a 501(c)(3) non-profit headquartered in Witchita, Kansas.

“We purchase all of our own vests for our deputies. Please do not send money to this form for the Latah County Sheriff’s Office,” the sheriff’s office says on its Facebook page.
