Fire Destroys Orofino Home

A Home in Orofino was destroyed by a fire that began at about 10:30 p.m. Monday night.

According to Window on the Clearwater, the residents at 619 Brown Avenue were able to escape the blaze before firefighters arrived.

Arriving crews reported smoke rolling out the back of the second story and visible flames had been reported. Once the structure self-ventilated, firefighters shifted to defending other nearby structures.

The Orofino Fire Department responded with 3 engines and 10 personnel and crews were on scene for about 6 hours before returning to suppress a minor rekindle. The Clearwater County Ambulance Service, Orofino Police Department and Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist as needed, while an Avista worker shut off power to the home.

The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation. Residents of the home were given information to contact the Red Cross for assistance.
