CLARKSTON, WA – A 46-year-old man who allegedly wore a wig while he stole an electric shopping cart from the Clarkston Walmart earlier this month was arrested yesterday by Clarkston Police. Ryan D. Burnam was booked into the Asotin County Jail on charges of 2nd-Degree Burglary, 2nd-Degree Theft, and 1st-Degree Criminal Trespass.
According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, a law enforcement officer responded to Foster Park for a reported alcohol offense early Monday afternoon and found Burnam. He made contact with him, but after learning there were no active warrants, the officer left the scene. That officer then contacted the Asotin County Prosecutor’s Office to inquire about the Walmart incident on October 9th and was informed that an arrest could be made based on the report for that case.
Clarkston officers returned to the park and took Burnam into custody.
Court documents say Burnam, who is trespassed from Walmart, took an electric shopping cart from the store and proceeded to run it into the cement blocks on the outside of the business.
“This subject then left the property with the cart and was heading in the direction of Costco,” the affidavit says, adding that responding police located it at the corner of 5th Street and Fair Street.
A Walmart Loss Prevention employee was able to provide police with a photo of Burnam. Despite the fact that he was wearing a wig, an officer was able to identify Burnam from “several” previous incidents.
“Ryan knew he was trespassed from the property, and there would be no other reason he would be wearing a wig, other than the fact he was trying to hide his identity,” the affidavit says.
Clarkston Police were unable to locate Burnam to interview him about the incident until Monday.
The shopping cart’s value was estimated at $1,325.
