A lightning-caused wildfire is being assessed on the Powell Ranger District.

According to the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, the Little Bear Fire was reported July 3rd burning in steep and rugged terrain with a high density of snags from the Freezeout fire

that burned in 2012.

The fire is approximately 150 acres in size and is burning downhill cleaning up dead and

down logs that have fallen since the 2012 fire. Crews will be assessing and implementing protection measures for the pack bridge at the intersection of Forest Service trails #49 and #213, as well as the infrastructure at Bear Mountain Lookout.

The fire is zero percent contained.
