LEWISTON, ID – An Osprey that was discovered dangling from its nest along Snake River Avenue on Monday appears to have successfully made its way back to its home. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game received multiple calls regarding the Bird of Prey that had its leg entangled in bailing twine and was hanging upside down from its nest near the Southway Bridge.

Fish and Game wildlife staff and Lewiston Fire Department personnel responded to the site; fire crews used the department’s bucket truck to access the nest platform.

IDFG’s Jen Bruns says there appears to be some young Osprey in the nest.

During the recovery, the Osprey’s mate was seen sitting in the nest and flying around the rescuers. Bruns says Osprey mate for life.

Meanwhile, Bruns says this incident is a good reminder to livestock owners and others to properly dispose of baling twine, ropes, and other items which might endanger wildlife.

“Thank you to all the concerned citizens for reporting this incident and to our helpful community members including the Lewiston Fire Department for their contribution to this successful rescue of the Osprey from the tangled nest,” IDFG says.
