SPOKANE, WA – Walmart confirmed to 4 News Now that its Washington stores will stop selling thick, single-use plastic and paper bags beginning today. In an email to KXLY, the company’s Western U.S. Communications Director Lauren Willis said the change is part of a goal for the company to achieve zero waste.
“Eliminating plastic and paper bags is part of our commitment to achieve zero waste across our operations and ultimately shift toward a circular economy built on advancing reuse, refill, and recycling habits,” Willis says.
Walmart says customers can still buy cloth and heavy-duty, reusable bags from stores; plastic bags for produce will still be available, and paper bags will still be used for pick-up and delivery.
