CLARKSTON, WA – A home in the 400 block of 8th Street was destroyed by a fire early this morning. Clarkston Fire Department crews were dispatched at about 12:54 a.m. When they arrived, they could see flames coming out of a window.
According to Clarkston Fire Chief Darren White, the home’s resident had reportedly fallen asleep while cooking. She and two pre-teen children were able to escape from the home and 9-1-1 was called.
Everything in the house was a “total loss,” White says.
One of the home’s occupants was transported to the hospital with minor burn injuries. Firefighters did find the family’s cat deceased.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Clarkston firefighters received assistance from Lewiston and Asotin County fire crews. None of the firefighters were injured.
