LEWISTON, ID – The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released its 2021 Hate Crime Statistics. Thousands of law enforcement agencies voluntarily submit data to the Uniform Crime Reporting Program’s (UCR) data collection on crimes motivated by prejudice based on race, gender and gender identity, religion, disability, sexual orientations, or ethnicity.
According to those statistics, hate crimes fell last year although reporting to the FBI also decreased. Just over 7,300 crimes were reported involving nearly 9,600 victims. But officials say that is just a fraction of the true number because the data was hampered by the reduced number of participating agencies.
